People often ask about tuning stages on cars and it all comes down to reliability and your driving needs. We have supported many owners over the years to modify their cars and help choosing which parts, problem solving along with tuning them. Here at Comkotes Tuning we have been running and developing stage 3 and stage 4 cars for over 20 years. A stage 1 tune is essentially a daily driver car with lower maintenance levels than say a stage 2 with the minimum number of modified parts required. As the stage of tune go up so does the number of performance parts, maintenance intervals and running costs. The usage of the vehicle impacts on its reliability generally above a stage 1 but for an example spark plugs, coils and engine oil/filters would have to be changed more regularly on stage 1 since the engine is running hotter. It is true that if you drive carefully without much throttle the mpg on a stage 1 is better than stock, in hindsight this can be misinterpreted as all fuel delivered to an engine comes via the drivers right foot pressing on the throttle, the more throttle you use the more fuel is delivered even if that fuel is dumped by the ECU. Those that have a tuned car tend to use the extra power once in a while, you need more fuel to make more power and thus economy is often lower unless you never engage in spirited driving.
The experts support all stages of tune along with any supporting modifications you may have. Please note some modifications may be essential for the remap you wish to run.
